Why you should visit Praiano
Characterized by high, jagged coastlines overlooking the sea, Praiano is definitely one of the most beautiful towns on the Amalfi Coast, an ideal destination for those who want to spend a relaxing vacation in a town surrounded by an extraordinary natural landscape.
Predominantly first developed in the past along the coast, over the centuries the town underwent changes that led it to have two centers: the hamlet of Vettica Maggiore in the lower part, and the hamlet of Praiano, where the real center of Praiano currently resides.
In the very heart of the Amalfi Coast, not far from the famous and renowned Positano, the town of Praiano is characterized by small streets, stairways and houses in pastel colors; still far from mass tourism, it still preserves the ancient votive shrines decorated in majolica and found almost everywhere along this seaside village.
Due to its special location and beauty, Praiano was the summer residence of the Doges of Amalfi when it was part of the Maritime Republic of Amalfi.
For most of the year, the climate in Praiano is characterized by a pleasant and refreshing sea breeze, which makes it possible to visit Praiano for a period from March until October, despite this, given the huge tourist influx that floods the narrow streets of the town, it can be difficult to stay in July and August because it is really very hot.
Among the main things to see in Praiano are first of all the typical narrow and winding streets, or rather "stairways," that connect the upper part of the town to the beach, the Church of San Gennaro, dating back to 1589, characterized by a beautiful oval dome and tiled with multicolored tiles, and not far from Praiano we find the very famous Fjord of Furore, an ideal place for the World Championship of Diving from great heights.
Praiano's main beaches are Marina di Praia, composed mainly of pebbles, Praia beach, reachable only by sea, and Cala della Gavitella. From Marina di Praia beach, one can access one of the most fashionable clubs on the entire Amalfi Coast: the club l'Africana.
