The Caves of Castelcivita: a surreal underground landscape
The Caves of Castelcivita, also known as the Caves of Spartacus, are located in the municipality of Castelcivita, at the gateway to the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park in the province of Salerno. It is a complex of karst cavities particularly rich in stalactites and stalagmites of a thousand shapes. The Caves of Castelcivita, with a total length of about 4800 m, today represent one of the largest speleological complexes in southern Italy. They extend, in fact, for several kilometers in the massif of the Alburni Mountains, in the municipalities of Castelcivita and Controne, but only 1700 m are accessible to visitors.

How to get to the Caves of Castelcivita
From Paestum: continue in the direction of Serra di Roccadaspide, at the intersection located on the hill, after a series of hairpin bends, turn left and continue in the direction of Albanella for about 2 km, then turn right in the direction of Altavilla Silentina. At the conspicuous telephone repeater turn right again and immediately the bridge again to the right.
