Why you should visit Acciaroli
Acciaroli, little hamlet of the town of Pollica, with its traditional maritime vocation, nowadays boasts the nickname of being the "capital" of the Mediterranean Diet, and with its village built of stones, tourist port and Torre Normmanna, despite being inhabited by little more than a thousand people, it claims to be one of the main tourist destinations of Cilento, especially in the summer.
The uniqueness of this small seaside village, literally made the famous American writer Ernest Hemingway fall in love with it, which, also inspired by the simple, slow and sacrificed life of the local fishermen, with whom he used to have conversations, brought him to write the masterpiece novel "the old man and the sea" with which he won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1954.
As Acciaroli is one of the favorite destinations for tourists, especially in the summertime, because of the crystal-clear and clean water of its sea, among the main things to see in Acciaroli we find first of all the numerous beaches, winners of many blue flags, each of them enchanting and with its own characteristics:
Spiaggia Grande: the largest beach in Acciaroli and the entire Cilento area. Particularly suitable for families with children as it is easily accessible from the town center, provided with fine sand and shallow waters.
Beach of Torre Caleo: located between Acciaroli and Pioppi, owes its name to the Norman tower behind it. Different from Spiaggia Grande, in fact this one is very small and composed mostly of pebbles and rocks.
Port beach: known as "la Spiaggetta" this beach is located right in the center of Acciaroli, so it is an excellent choice for those who do not want to stray far from the main city services.
Also among the other things to see in Acciaroli are: the Church of the Annunziata, the historic center of Acciaroli, built entirely of stone, full of colorful stores and narrow alleys in which to get lost, and the Norman Tower, one of the 5 watchtowers found in Cilento.
Between the municipalities of Agnone Cilento to the north and Pioppi to the south, Acciaroli has received UNESCO recognition as a privileged place of the Mediterranean diet; in fact, just a few kilometers from Acciaroli, in Pioppi, the Eco Museum of the Mediterranean Diet is a must-see.
