How to get from Naples to Salerno

Train

Salerno can be easily reached by train from the stations of Napoli Centrale or Napoli Afragola.

From the Napoli Centrale station, you can take a regional, intercity or high-speed train and the journey time ranges from about 30 minutes for the high-speed to about 60 minutes for the regional train. Tickets for regional trains to Salerno cost about € 5.00, while high-speed trains cost slightly more.

From Napoli Afragola station, instead, high-speed trains travel between Naples and Salerno in about 30 minutes.

How to get to Salerno from the Amalfi Coast

Ferry

Generally, from April to October, the main towns on the Amalfi Coast are connected to Salerno by sea connections, i.e. ferries and hydrofoils.

Ferries from Salerno mainly depart/arrive from Molo Masuccio Salernitano (Piazza della Concordia), not far from the train station, and can reach the following towns: Positano, Amalfi, Maiori, Minori, Cetara and Vietri sul Mare.

There are also runs from Molo Manfredi, but these are much less frequent.

How to get from Rome to Salerno

The trip from Rome to Salerno is not that long, in fact from Rome Termini or Rome Tiburtina with high-speed connections the time needed will be about 2 hours, while from Rome Termini and Ciampino airports the estimated time is about 3 ½ hours.

How to get to Salerno from Rome Fiumicino

From Rome Fiumicino airport, it is possible to take the Leonardo Express train to Roma Termini station, Rome's main railway station. From here, it is possible to proceed by train to Salerno.

The train connections available between Rome and Salerno are:

  • Eurostar Freccia Rossa (TAV): this is definitely the most convenient solution, but also the most expensive. In about two hours it will take to Salerno station. Trains of this type leave every hour and are usually extremely punctual. The cost is about €40.

  • Intercity: are mid-range trains and connect Rome to Salerno in about three hours. The cost is about €20.

  • Interregional trains: trains stopping at all stations and in every city. It takes about 4 hours to travel from Rome to Salerno. The ticket costs 10 €, we only recommend it if you are travelling on a very tight budget.

Alternatively, from Rome Fiumicino airport, it is also possible to take a direct bus to Salerno with the Leonettibus company.

How to get to Salerno from Rome Ciampino

Once you arrive at Rome Ciampino Airport, take a bus that will take you to Rome Termini Station and from there follow the instructions above.


How to get to Salerno by ship

It is possible to reach Salerno by ship from the main Italian and Mediterranean ports through the companies Caronte & Tourist and Grimaldi Lines.
