Discover where to park on the Amalfi Coast
If you plan to reach the Amalfi Coast by car, thus not taking advantage of the ferry or public transportation, do not assume that you will find a place for your car, much less that you will find it right where you decide to stop. In fact, parking is a very sore point on the Amalfi Coast: all the towns on the coast have both public and private parking lots, but you have to consider that parking can cost up to 5.00 euros per hour! Many tourists at the end of their vacation find that they have spent far more on parking than on anything else: so here are some tips on how to find parking on the Amalfi Coast while spending on a budget!
What are the parking lots on the Amalfi Coast and how much do they cost?
The towns on the Coast all run vertically, so parking in such small spaces can be difficult. This is precisely why we will help you find the best parking for your needs, in terms of budget and location, through an overview of which parking areas are available and how much it costs to park on the Amalfi Coast.
Atrani. Atrani and Amalfi are divided by a very well lighted, small tunnel that is easy to walk through even at night. Parking regulated by blue lines offers few spaces; after all, Atrani itself is very small. The car can be parked a few meters from the beach and the cost is about 2.50€/hour.
Amalfi. Just across the tunnel leading from Atrani to Amalfi, on the right is the Luna Rossa parking garage, which costs 3€/hour; you can try to bargain for an all-day figure of 30€, hardly in high season. Another parking lot is Il Porto at a rate of 3€/hour. There are white stripes 1 km before Amalfi on Agerola road 366, such parking lots often fill up, but there are many spots along the road where you can park for free. Remember that away from the center, parking lots are almost always reserved for residents!
In Positano it is advisable to park at the Nocelle or Montepertuso area. Here it is possible to take a "Flavio Gioia" shuttle that, at a cost of €1.60 per person, goes to the center. Parking in municipal spaces comes at a cost of 3€/h, in summer on weekends it is almost impossible to find parking.
Also bear in mind that in Positano and other towns on the Amalfi Coast, the historic center is completely pedestrian friendly so there are no roads that can be traveled by car!
In Ravello you will find parking under Piazza Duomo, and the rate is €2.50/hour, with payment in arrears. You can buy a daily ticket, at hotel facilities, for 15€. It is not recommended, but it is possible to stop your car in restricted traffic zones, but paying up to 5€/h. Alternatively, you can consider blue lines along the Via Giovanni Boccaccio road near the Auditorium.
In Cetara, the town of "cianciole," stopping for an hour to take a bath or enjoy an ice cream comes at a cost of about 3€/h in the public parking areas. In particular, there is a large parking lot (these are blue lines) near the marina, a short walk from the Cetara Marina Beach.
There is no real parking area in Maiori, but it is possible to park in the blue lines along the promenade, both on holidays and weekdays, during the summer, the cost is 3€/hour. Should you want to try your luck, there are white stripes in which to park along Via Chiunzi, obviously you move away from the city center.
In Minori, as with Maiori, there are blue lines that run along the waterfront and at the end of Via Roma a small pay parking lot of about 20 spaces for both cars and scooters. From the parking meter it is possible to collect the ticket, which for one hour charges 3€/hour. Continuing on Via Gatto, toward Amalfi, you will find about 15 parking spaces in front of Hotel Europa.
Praiano is a terraced town, just like Positano, and you have to have some luck to find along the narrow streets blue stripes that are free, especially during peak season. The fee is 2/€hour but, for those who park for a minimum of six hours, it is 1€.
Down at the Praia, or the characteristic inlet that three-quarters occupies the town of Furore, parking requires the sum of 2.50€/hour.
Vietri is one of the towns on the Amalfi Coast where parking costs the cheapest. The first parking lot you encounter coming from Salerno is the one at the beginning of Corso Umberto I, a pay parking area of about 30 spaces at a cost of 2€/hour. Much more space there is down at the marina, in fact here you will find both two huge parking lots at a cost of about 1.50€/hour during the week and 2€/hour on Saturdays and Sundays.

Before you set out, plan your trip to the Amalfi Coast
Before heading to the Amalfi Coast, if you are on vacation and your hotel is located along the coast, when making your reservation ask the hotel where you are staying if there is availability of parking or alternatively a special rate for your car. Currently, hotels have spaces available for their guests, such as indoor or outdoor garages, which of course need to be reserved well in advance!
Free parking in Amalfi?
Finding free parking in Amalfi is very difficult, especially in high season. Nonetheless, there are a few free parking places along the SS163 road from Atrani to Amalfi, in fact just in the last stretch before reaching Amalfi, there are some free places.
Alternatively, for those coming from Positano in the direction of Amalfi, there are some free spots along the SS163 (via Mauro Comite), about 1.5km (20 minutes walk) from the center of Amalfi.
Free parking in Positano?
Finding free parking in central Positano is impossible unless you decide to go to the hamlet of Positano: Nocelle (upper part of Positano). Here along the road you will be able to find some free parking, and to reach the center of Positano there is a need to take the bus.
Useful tips before hitting the road to the Amalfi Coast
1. The 163 "Amalfitana" road that connects all the towns on the Coast has only one lane in each direction and is often busy in summer. It alternates continuous curves overlooking the sea, so driving with extreme caution is recommended.
2. Try to avoid rush hours, especially during the summer season, so as not to risk getting caught in traffic and proceeding slowly in the hot sun. The most critical days are: Saturdays and Sundays, from May until early October.
3. Scooters and motorcycles are definitely the most convenient means of getting around the Coast in total freedom, without worrying about traffic and parking, which is almost always free for two-wheelers. If there are two of you traveling, you can choose to rent a scooter on the Amalfi Coast, in the main urban centers!
4. Remember that you can always book cabs on the Amalfi Coast, however, not the cheapest option. Another alternative is rental with driver for excursions, tours and transfers. In short, there are various alternatives you can consider, depending on your needs and budget.
