Visit the Blue Grotto: the most famous attraction on the island of Capri.
During your vacation on the island of Capri in Italy, you must absolutely visit the Blue Grotto, a natural cave considered the biggest tourist attraction on the entire island.

The Blue Grotto of Capri is a natural sea cave located inside the cliff, it has a length of 60 meters and a width of 25 meters. Despite its size, the entrance to the grotto is only two meters wide and one meter high, so to visit it you have to get into small, traditional rowboats carrying a maximum of four people, lie down on the bottom of the boat and rely on the experience of the sailor who, by giving himself the momentum with a chain attached to the rock, will get you inside the cave.

Once inside, you will go from the external hustle and bustle of the many tourists and sailors waiting to enter, to the immediate calm and initial darkness, to the sudden blue and blue color of the water which illuminated by the sunlight outside the grotto, generates this wonderful natural refraction, giving you the feeling of flying and not floating.

Most of the tourists who visit the island of Capri prefer it from the sea, and a sightseeing tour of the island cannot be considered complete without a stop at the Blue Grotto.

Capri is a beautiful island with white rocky cliffs falling sheer into the green and blue water. The island has several attractions, and many of them are natural ones, represented by the sea caves: the white, green and blue caves. Among these three, the Blue Grotto is by far the most impressive, although it must be said that the other caves are equally worth a visit. Therefore, if you have time and sufficient budget, take a boat ride around the island to see all the caves.

In addition to the cost to get to the Blue Grotto by boat or bus, there is an additional cost to board the rowboat that takes you to the cave and visit it.
Since the Blue Grotto is comparable to a cultural site, admission fees are equivalent to those of a museum. The price is €18 per person and tickets can be purchased online or on site. The entrance fee for children under 6 years old is free, likewise it is free for EU citizens under 18 years old, who will then only have to pay 11 euros per person for the boat. For EU citizens between 18 and 25 years old, there is a reduction on the entrance fee, so the cost is 15 euros. Tipping the sailor of the rowboat is at your discretion.

The Blue Grotto is open year-round, weather conditions permitting, although it is often closed during the winter months, generally from November to March. If you plan to visit in winter, we recommend that you first check at the Laser Capri (Pier 21) and Motoscafisti di Capri (Pier 0) ticket offices in Marina Grande if the cave is open. Normally if the ticket offices are closed, the cave is also closed, and if the sea is rough the Blue Grotto will not be open. Usually every morning, sailors check the sea conditions and the entrance to the cave to ensure if it is safe to visit.

The best time of the day to visit the Blue Cave is on a sunny day between noon and 2 p.m. In fact, during this time, due to the more intense sunlight and the direction of the sun's rays relative to the waves of the sea, the refraction phenomenon becomes more intense and with it also the blue and turquoise color inside the cave.
